In the end I now think it was a point won, but not the way I felt at the final whistle

I would have been happy with an away point but having gone one up so late in the game it would have been nice to hold out for all 3.

1 point earned, at the final whistle felt like 2 lost as we really should have played this one out but on reflection deff 1 earned.

I was only listening but their keeper only had to make 1 save in 90 min, you cant expect to win games if you create so so little, I dont think we were ever gonna lose this one but until the og we werent gonna win it either

When I look at the table we have one point more than we had yesterday - so it's a point gained.
  4.  # 10
We were no way near our best today, gillingham were up for it far more than us. The pitch didn't encourage free flowing expansive football as we like, plus they do have a good home record. So I'm happy with the point however we did get a very lucky late goal and if we want to properly challenge for the title we can't afford to let too many late leads slip...

Point earned - Definite banana skin - they were up for it - We didn't lose. Still gutted though.
  5.  # 12
earned. they're good at home and leeds would do well to get the same 1pt if they are as up for it as they were against us.

Conditions were poor. Swirling wind. Tiny pitch. Gills looking to kick us of the pitch. Gills are a different side at home, that is only the 5th goal they hace conceded at home. Add in another terrible ref and you conclude it was a good point.
  6.  # 14
Am sitting on the train back to london. Game was poor, gills deserved at least a point. Looked a lot more threatening than us. Quick sum up of the day- shit town, weird weird people, shit ground, shit game.
  7.  # 15
Just got home, I'll take the point but we were awful. McLeod & Burton didn't look like a threat at all. Ref was shite too
  8.  # 16
Oh, Gillingham is even more of a shithole than I remember.

One point gained as we were crap. No more than three passes before giving it away. Crosses that were too short or too long. No control, no real shots and a ref that was one of the worst I have ever seen!

Mind you, it was nice to be home 10 minutes after the final kick of the game.

Given how poor we were definitely a point won.

One shot from McLeod in the first half which almost ended up in the Medway it was so off target no corners. The most exciting bit was the big bundle with the stewards and coppers ejecting the Charlton fans for a welcome return to the boozer. That's how bad we were.

Second half Elliot kept us in it until Nutter lived up to his name. Dailly and Sodje then played after you Claude to allow Jackson to equalise.

McLeod was more effective destroying advertising placards or sitting on the laps of Gillingham fans.

Given all that definitely a point gained!

Just got in and lots to say when AFKA opens the 'official' post-match comments thread. But short answer - a point gained in the end as they were much better than us. BUT after last week's euphoria it was a serious wake-up call. We won't get automatic promotion if we can't win away. And we haven't managed it since way back in August.

Thanks to those who spent the week belittling them and telling us the Gills were 'nothing' and were unworthy of their first visit from the mighty Charlton in 29 years. The word that comes to mind is hubris. A point was just about fair, but only just. We didn't deserve to win, but we hardly could have complained if they had.

Wasn't there, so harder for me to say, but as said it was a potential banana skin. Last season we'd have lost games like this. We need to improve and start winning games, but at least we're not losing.

Still have problems up front, Burton and Shelvey are the better players, but McLeod for Shelvey adds pace and just that creates chances, though we don't really finish them. Perhaps Mooney needs a run in the team, he might have that bit more quality than McLeod but at least some pace to offer what McLeod does.

They were shit, we were shittier!
    FACT

And the ref was a blind buffoon.

are villa really pleased to get a draw at wolves today and if they were offered it before the game would they really bite your hand off?

i am sure that if we had lost the usual would sing the virtues of that too.

Now had some time to digest it.

Lets get one thing straight it was an awful game. It wasn't helped by the absolute pudding of a pitch. The rain obviously made it very heavy and to me the grass looked too long. Add to that a horrible swirling wind and you were never going to see a footballing classic. Incidently, does anyone know the dimensions of the pitch?. It looked tiny too me.

Thought Gillingham were worth their point, however, at no point did I think we were going to loose it. Wasn't overly impressed with Jackson - not at the 2m they are talking about anyway.

Didn't have a good view of the McLeod penalty incident, but reports say it was a stone waller. I don't think Mcleod is helping himself, he goes down very easily and in the last couple of games he has had pens turned down that might have been given had he not been "looking" for freekicks earlier in the game.

Very disappointed with our setplays today. Bailey's delivery was woeful. Perhaps a bit harsh as I am guessing the overhit ones were probably caught by the wind.

Defensively we were reasonably sound. Was surprised Richardson came out for the second half, he appeared to pull up with a thigh strain towards the end of the first half.

Thought we lacked a spark in midfield today. Lloyd Sam is starting to wind me up. The amount of times he is caught behind our full back when we are attacking down the right is criminal. Don't think he beat a player once today.

I thought against Huddersfield & Oldham that our support play was lacking. So many times our players find themselves isolated with little or no support. In the last few weeks our movement off the ball - especially infront of the player on the ball - has been non-existant.

Front two were not with it today either. Burton is clearly carrying this injury, his work rate has noticeably dropped off - he won nothing in the air today either. I think Len said elsewhere, you have to respect the fact that McLeod doesn't hide, for all of his many limitations he does stretch defences. Mooney looked ok when he came on.

Looking at Gillingham's home record before today 4-4-1 and only 4 goals against I would have been happy with a point, narks you a little that we took the lead late on and couldn't see the game out but all in all a useful point.

I thought the Gills pitch was bigger than the Valley despite comments. I checked. Priestfield is 114x75 and the valley is 112 by 73 so Priestfield wins in both directions. The closeness of the crowd gives the illusioon of being smaller.

Sat as a guest with the Gills fans which was interesting (and I must say they were all incredibly friendly, both those I knew and those whom were complete strangers). They were expecting to see the best team to visit the Priestfield so far this season and were very disappointed. They said both Colchester and Norwich were several classes better than us and reckoned that if we are automatic promotion candidates, there is no reason why they can't make the play-offs. I tried to tell them that they just got us on an off-day (and they were much amused when I told them about our agonising over whether it was a 'genuine' derby or not). But overall they were well happy.

Good atmosphere - a real derby feeling, almost a cup tie feel. Unfortunately, what happened on the field didn't live up to it. Conditions didn't help, but there was a real lack of skill out there today and too many of our 'gun players' were off-form, in all areas of the park. Youga lacked the confidence of recent weeks for some reason. Bailey and Sam were not so much anonymous as just anaemic and even Semedo seemed to go missing. Burton seemed to withdraw into his shell after his early booking and I thought we made the wrong substitution up-front. Burton should have gone off, not Izale, when Mooney came on. He hasn't scored in an age and he looks a shadow of the player who so surprised and delighted us all back in Aug/early Sept. Perhaps he should take some time out and go and have that hernia op. Mooney today looked like a more than decent replacement.

Sodje did a good job keeping Jackson quiet, but apart from him and Elliott , there weren't many heroes out there for us today. We really do need to start winning away - especially as over the next five weeks we have away games against three non-contenders at Carlisle, Yeovil and Brighton.

Despite others criticising the ref, I didn't think he was too bad. Certainly better than the idiots we had v Oldham and Huddersfield.

Point won but should have held out for the win.

Three main reasons why we didn't really get going

One the condition - blustery and wet
Two the pitch - like a pudding and the grass was Rugby Union length - far too long
Three a totally inept performance by the ref: what a tool!

Semedo our best player with Sodje and Dailly close behind.Youga and Elliot had good games.

As for the rest, not too much.

Really thought we'd mugged them for 3 points. Shame.

Personally thought the ref started ok and was clearly trying to let the game flow. Unfortunately ignoring Gillingham players going through the back of Burton, McLeod & Bailey was ridiculous.

Thought it was just me with the grass length. Pleased someone else noticed.

Gillingham definitely adapted to the conditions better than we did.
