  • I'd like him not to just experiment but go the whole hog and say "Thank you and goodnight" to all our tarnished failures for good. ALL of them: Rooney, Cole, Lampard, Gerrard, Terry, Ferdinand.....the lot!
  • Not sure about Zaha, but I'd like him to use players with a genuine chance of making the Euro's, the younger players like Cleverley, Rodwell, and Gibbs. We need to use these games to blood the youngsters otherwise we're just going backwards as a footballing nation. Terry and Lampard have to be finished surely?
  • Break the old guard, explain to the nation that the Euro's is preparation for Brazil and we'll be blooding youngsters. Take the pressure off them and just let them try and enjoy playing for England and gain some experience. Done.

    AGREE 100%...

This would be so good for the nation to watch our youngsters go out and show spirit and heart.

We would be proud and not dissapointed when we are evicted from the competition.

  • We have a good set of young players that should be put together now to make them gel for the future, we could be a real force of we sacrificed a couple years for the future

Unlike the future England manager last night

    ;o)

  • GK: Hart, Stockdale, Green

DF: A. Cole, Baines, Richards, Walker, Smalling, Jones, Cahill, Lescott, Jagielka

MF: Parker, Milner, Gerrard, Rodwell, A. Young, Walcott, Ox-Chamberlain, Sturridge

    FW: Bent, Welbeck, Crouch, Rooney

    Starting XI in bold.

Hart will keep his place, he's yet to be tarnished by the media for a 'keeping error or being part of a failed squad at a major tournament.

I also don't think we should be kicking out Cole/Gerrard/Rooney yet, they're all still obviously one of, if not the, best in the country in their positions. Although, considering Rooney's ban for the opening games of Euro 2012, he might be lucky to get on the bench but we have to keep him involved in the squad.

Finally, I would recall Crouch simply because he's getting regular games again at Stoke and so will be sharp and ready to go, with a great international scoring record.

I don't think any of the other picks need much justification.

I disagree with the team selections apart from I agree that Hart should be England number 1 but for this match v Holland we should try Stockdale so he can be our number two keeper.

I also agree with possibly recalling Crouch.

HOWEVER, what have Gerrard and Cole achieved with England???

    GET RID!
  • crouch does not score
  • Crouch has a very good record for England tbf
  • Perhaps he's planning to experiment by not naming a keeper in his team... like the first side he picked as caretaker at Forest, when Mrs P had to point out to him when he showed her his starting XI over the breakfast table that he hadn't got anyone between the posts (and possibly even less between his ears!)...
  • crouch does not score

22 goals from 42 caps suggests otherwise.
  • Gk.hart
    Rb Solly
    Cb morrison
    Cb jones
    Lb baines
    Rm sturridge
    Cm parker
    Cm hollands
    Lm jackson
    St rooney
St yann ;) gotta be sort of english hasnt he :)
  • Apart from Hart, Parker and Rooney, I'd offload the rest and build around these 3. I know Parker is getting on a bit but still think he has another 3 years in him
  • Adam Johnson has to be included in the squad
  • Hart should be captain as well.

Honestly think he's looking for himself for the Olympics
  • Starting (Sub)

    GK - Hart (Stockdale)
    RB - Richards (Walker)

    LW - A Johnson (Ox-Chamberlain)
    AM - Rooney (Carroll [ST])
    RW - A Young (Walcott)
    ST - Bent (Sturridge)

I'd go with these play two halves
  • Adam Johnson has to be included in the squad

    Seconded.

Awesome player but needs to move for regular football
  • Banks
    Cohen
    Charlton J
    Jones P
    Wilson
    Parker S
    Charlton B
    Peters
    Ball
    Hurst
    Hunt

    mixture of youth & experience
  • Have you seen the new England shirt? Its bloody lovely: http://blog.umbro.com/post/england-2012-inspired-by-st-george-tailored-by-umbro/

Makes me want to support England (I support Wales) just so I can wear it!
  • I would go with:
    Hart
    Richards
    Jones
    Lescott
    Baines
    Downing
    Parker
    Milner
    Young
    Rooney
    Bent

Sturridge, Welbeck, Johnson, Rodwell, Cahill, Walker, Stockdale
  • I agree with trying some youngsters and getting rid of some of the old guard but I wouldn't say get rid of all the experience (thinking towards Euros here more, for friendlies i say use the youngsters).
One more thing, A Johnson should be in the squad every time for me.
  • I think the Euros are a complete write off for us. Just get a good young team with some experienced heads who will do a job, but apart from Parker (who should be captain) the old guard should not be first choice.

Young, Parker, Wilshere and Ox Chamberlain/Johnson is a midfield that could gel, some quality and with the exception of parker will be around for years. Rooney will have to fight for his place, not done it for a long time for england, but will probably become captain when Parker's knees go.
  • Hart

    Richards
    Jones
    Smalling
    Cole

    The Ox
    Parker
Wilshere (Cleverly if wilshere injured still)
    Young

    Welbeck
    Rooney

Neck line is too high. How annoying would that be, running around in that?
  • loving that home shirt.

My take on the England situation after this game....let Harry pick and take the squad to the Euro's, then Pearce stays in charge until after the next world cup (it's in Brazil so we've no chance of doing anything out there), blood a good young squad (with Harry's input) for 2 years ready for him to take over after the WC and prepare for the Euro's in France and then WC in Russia (I think?)....that way Harry gets 2 more years at Spurs and probably takes them as far as he can, keeps his hand in with England cause he's on a hiding to nothing taking a squad to a WC in Brazil, for me only Brazil, Argies and Spain stand a cat in hells chance of winning out there (even the likes ir Ururguay and Mexico will have a better chance)....and then picks up a hopefully decent squad he's had an input on ready to attack 2 far more winable tournaments.
  • Let's face it whatever age the players are not world class. However by changing the internal dynamic of the squad we might be able to get them playing as a team (for each other). For this to happen all of the old guard have to go permanently. Any team that plays as a unit and for each other has a chance to win because they become more than the sum of the whole. As this is a squad for the euros and then the next world cup I wouldn't pick anyone over 30 either.
  • @Stig they can fold the collar down if it annoys them I think.

    That collar looks rediculous

The 3rd image shows it is already folded down
  • Where's Pearce getting this mantra from

Now that's stunning, when they showed the new navy blue kit I hoped it meant the home was switching to red, but instead Hart gets the red kit

The home shirt is back to being white shorts and socks, so no navy shorts whatsoever
  • nicest kit for a long while
  • About as close as Barton is going to get to that shirt.
  • I would like to see our strongest 11 start, and keep playing in every game until the finals start.

I do not understand why the coach of the U21s needs to see the youngsters more.
  • The Squad

Goalkeepers: Scott Carson (Bursaspor), Joe Hart (Manchester City), Robert Green (West Ham United).

Defenders: Gary Cahill (Chelsea), Ashley Cole (Chelsea), Leighton Baines (Everton), Glen Johnson (Liverpool), Phil Jones (Manchester United), Micah Richards (Manchester City), Chris Smalling (Manchester United), Kyle Walker (Tottenham Hotspur).

Midfielders: Gareth Barry (Manchester City), Tom Cleverley (Manchester United), Stewart Downing (Liverpool), Adam Johnson (Manchester City), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), James Milner (Manchester City), Scott Parker (Tottenham Hotspur), Ashley Young (Manchester United), Theo Walcott (Arsenal).

Forwards: Darren Bent (Aston Villa), Fraizer Campbell (Sunderland), Daniel Sturridge (Chelsea), Wayne Rooney (Manchester United), Danny Welbeck (Manchester United).
  • Centre-backs look a bit thin on the ground and no Chamberlain.
  • Competitive under 21 game that week, so he's needed there.
