Charlton Life, Down At The Mac, Owlstalk....

We're only in November but already the 'trolling' wars of 2011/2012 are well and truly underway.

I must say I do read other forums quite regularly (never bother signing up for any of them, mind), to see what other team's fans are saying about us - particularly before and after the respective games between two clubs.

I know this happens every season but I do feel that the intensity of the debate has been cranked up a notch this time round.  Much of this has a lot to do with the league being quite competitive as well as there seemingly being 3 particularly strong challengers for promotion this year, vying for only 2 automatic places.  This is reflected in the nature of the discussion and I think that fans of all three teams are feeling the pressure...I wonder whether similar things run through the minds of the players?

In any case, I do find the banter incredibly entertaining.  Some of the comments are completely out-of-touch, both from the opposition and ourselves.  I wonder where the debate will go from here if us, Huddersfield and Sheffield Wednesday are still going relatively strong come March/April next year?!  God help us! *cackles*

  • Are you going to give us some examples?
  • Too many people are dismissing MK Dons for my liking
  • Sheffield Utd will come good

This, The MK Dons could still be a threat and are a good run at the moment
  • Sheffield Utd will come good
  • Brentford will come good.
  • They might come good but we are good already
  • Are you going to give us some examples?

The examples are in plain sight for everyone to see, there's no need to point out specific threads which have been highlighted here already.
  • Too many people are dismissing MK Dons for my liking
Modern football is a squad game and my personal opinion is that MK Dons do not have great cover in various areas over the pitch.
  • Fair point Oriental, but I feel they have always used the loan market well in the past to cover that area. I see them being more likely than Sheff U.
  • Sheffield Utd will come good

  • Sheffield Utd will come good

Do you think so, looks like you are your own with that one :-)
  • Sheffield Utd will come good
Maybe next season , i think they are still adjusting to the shock of being in this division as we were a few years back.
  • Sheffield Utd will challenge!
  • Sheffield Utd will challenge!
    No. They'll come good.
  • Mk a huge threat to the top 2 they will have results against all in the top 6 that could decide the fate of who goes up
  • If Preston sack brown they might put on a late run some good players there dispite the woefull showing against us
  • Back to the opening post, just looking at the site stats for today and in the first 2,000 visitors to the site today, only 41 came from Yorkshire. So perhaps not as much trolling as you would think.

Mind you, oohaah will point out that most of them will live down here....

    :-)
  • There's some nicely mixed views/opinions of us on those links. I agree with the bloke about the `Come in peace', a bit cringeworthy.
  • in my opinion MKD don't have enough strength in depth, Sheff Utd are deep in debt and may have to sell, Sheff Weds won't spend in January especially with Mandaric in court in February and possibly going down, PNE are too far behind now and likely to sell anyway, Brentford not good enough.
  • Have to say I was feeling pretty confident, after all, all we had to do was keep winning (unrealistic I know) & it wouldn't matter what anyone else did. However with JJ's injury it just shows how a couple of injuries to key men could have us in a spot of bother.

  • Sheffield Utd will challenge!
    No. They'll come good.

I heard that they were Massive.  I think it was them anyway.
  • sheffield utd will come good!
  • Come march/april and were still in the top two. Sheff wed fans will still be saying were going to have a blip
  • Last 14, W11 D2 L1

    Looking good!

  • But not as good. Check the league table - you are still 5 points behind. Anyway, points at the end of the season are what counts
  • With the Udders losing, and at home, so soon after losing to us, their confidence must be pretty low. Not the best time to be meeting the Owls. Let's hope for a backlash from them.
  • Definitely!
  • Sorry to disappoint , but Milan stated two weeks ago January will see a further support for Megson ,with an outlay of £4-6 million(including extra wage costs).

Whilst the Blunts, need to offload three top earners as they are still losing £100,000 per week and the Tevez money is going directly to the bank to offset their £32m debt

MK are on a good run , but Gleeson is key to franchise progress.

Bournemouth could make a play off surge.

Oh and the terriers, wouldnt be surprised if Clark gets the bullet in early Jan , living in Hudds I am told he wanted to got to Leicester, didnt turn up for training the morning, after his interview, only for them to says Thanks but not Thanks.
  • Got a feeling that Mandaric may have other matters on his mind in January.

  • Mandaric, wont go down, but even if he did, the club is in  trust name not his and CEO would still run the club.Long term plan doesnt change, we rise up the football league, value increases and Milan cashes in when the price is right.  Nothing to see here move on!

£4 - £6m? No chance. Wake up mate, this is Division 3.

If Utd are lsoing £100k a week, how much do you calculate Wednesday are losing a week? Particulalry if the rumours about Semedo wages are true.

Clark has had an interview in the past few weeks that's true - but it wasn't at Leicester :-)

  • Wednesday have some loans expiring in January, if they lose Marshall that would be a blow.
  • Personally couldnt give a shit about Weds, MK Dons or anyone else. We are in the drivers seat. Its pretty clear where our squad is short, the board will address it in January. Take care of ourselves. Fcuk everyone else.

    100% correct.

All the other possible contenders are more worried about us than we are of them. Let them all strengthen and they still won't be better than us.
  • "Mandaric, wont go down, but even if he did..."  Make your mind up Netherton!!  And £4-6 million, where's that coming from (or perhaps we shouldn't ask)
  • 4-6 million would buy a new team in division one. I thought the the owls were all conquering already ?
  • 4-6 million would stabilise a squad in the Premiership if spent right. No chance Weds are getting that much to spend. Who wants 4-6 million quids worth of giant centre backs and journeyman holding midfielders anyway
  • If you seriously had that much cash you would have had Green playing right mid yesterday, because you would have out paid us but didn't because you haven't - dreamers
  • There is no way they will ( or have) that sort of money to spend. It's just another reason to think that The Wendies are absolutely deluded but i do admire their confidence , even if it is misguided.
  • sheffield utd will come good!
  • Just another deluded Wendy to add to the long list. But keep it coming. It brightens up my day hearing it
  • Mandaric will not invest that kind of money in Sheffield Wednesday, he hasn't spent like that at any of his previous clubs and he won't start now, plus he's well aware that spending big money isn't necessary in this league, Charlton have built a far more successful squad on considerably less for example.

The key to getting one of the two automatic spots is consistency - SW are doing ok in that regard, why bring in more players and upset things?

  • Will Sheffield Utd come good?

  • Dont believe me but direct quote from MM

    Gary will have full support.

“We are keeping our eye on the ball, assessing where we are and what issues we need to address with regard to loan players,”

On his spending so far, the chairman says: “I had to settle a lot of bills; there were also managerial contracts, plus losses during the season that we had to deal with, and there was a couple of million to bring in players.

“I have spent at least £14m already, and by the end of the season I think the total will be between £16m and £20m. I don’t call that investment a loss, because I know it is getting the club going in right direction. We are a club with ambition.”

  • Or you could listen to one of your own!.

It was nice to hear Orient striker Kevin Lisbie being interviewed on Talksport yesterday......The interviewer asked who he thinks will win the league and his answer was...............I think Sheffield Wednesday are by far the strongest team and have more strength in depth than the rest and I expect them to kick on from here and win the league......Class Kevin

"there was a couple of million to buy players".

He may spend up to another £6m this season, but I doubt that all of that will go on players. SW like most other clubs are likely to be running at a loss - Charlton included, we are scheduled (at least according to rumour) to lose around £4-5m this season, maybe a couple more million will go on players, the rest on running the club. That's likely to be the case at Charlton too.

  • He doesnt say "on players".  Looks to me like he means he's underwriting the money the clubs losing, and it will have cost him another 2 - 6 mill at the end of the season.  Still I'd be letting my head rule my heart too if I was you.
  • Funny - "(the manager) has our full support" is usually what they say just before they sack him.  ;0)
