Radio shows are a key way to spread the CAFC gospel
CHARLTON radio shows are a bit like buses. Nothing for ages and then two come along together.
No sooner had I told Brian Cole that I’d be more than happy to do a feature on the Supporters’ Director role plus regular updates on his relaunched Charlton Plus show when it starts again in April, than I received a request from TGR Sound, the community station covering Bexley and beyond.
Charlton Plus is an internet radio show solely for Charlton fans and many of you will remember it from previous incarnations.
The target date for its re-appearance is April 1 or sooner if the technology can be sorted out.
I’ll mention the details of how to log on, broadcast times etc as soon as I have them.
TGR Sound 107.3 FM is already up and running with a weekly local sports show hosted by Covered End season ticket holder Terry Smith.
Again you should be able to access it via the internet, or on air from 6.00pm to 8.00pm every Sunday.
By a happy coincidence, Terry’s co-presenter was away last Sunday so that left us free to devote nearly the whole show to our win over West Ham.
I can’t remember being 3-0 up and in such total control of a game at half-time for many a year.
West Ham may have been poor (scrub that; they were poor) but we were very good.
The confidence was clear to see across the whole team and in the stands, where the fans really got behind Pardew and the players.
And wasn’t it a strange feeling not having to worry about whether it was one or 10 minutes added on at the end.
Not that anything was left to chance. Did you notice that the ball boys were slightly older than normal?
The Under 17 side were drafted in to make sure that, if needed, the ball would be returned as quickly as necessary should the game still be close going into the final few minutes.
Disappointing for the regular ball boys but they got to watch the game from the press gantry and will be given another chance to do a game.
A KEY part of my manifesto was to communicate so I’m grateful to Terry and Brian for the opportunity to explain what I’ve already done and what I’m trying to do on air rather than just in print.
And as someone has already, rather cruelly, pointed out I have the perfect face for radio.
